Celebrating Nearly 25 Years of Service: Randy Shaw Retires from MRHA

November 18, 2024

Almonte & Carleton Place, ON The Mississippi River Health Alliance (“MRHA”) proudly celebrates the remarkable career of Randy Shaw, who retires this month after nearly 25 years of dedicated service to Almonte General Hospital (“AGH”), Fairview Manor (“FVM”), Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital (“CPDMH”), and Lanark County Paramedic Service (“LCPS”). With a career spanning over four decades, Randy has made an extraordinary impact on MRHA and the community, creating a legacy of enhanced healthcare facilities, clinical services, and community health programs.

Randy’s journey with AGH began in the mid-1980s, where he first contributed his expertise through contract-based support services across diverse sectors, including healthcare. In 2001, Randy returned to MRHA full-time, taking on the critical role of managing facilities and support services for AGH and FVM during a period of extensive redevelopment. Working alongside then-CEO Ray Timmins, Randy played a key role in merging FVM and AGH into a unified healthcare campus—a milestone completed with a grand opening in 2008. Today, this campus stands as a lasting testament to Randy's commitment to accessible, high-quality healthcare in our region.

In addition to his work in facilities management, Randy took on expanded responsibilities within clinical services, overseeing diagnostics, rehabilitation, allied health, and laboratory services. Through his vision and persistence, AGH acquired its first CT scanner, providing the community with essential imaging services close to home. Randy also helped establish the Ottawa Valley Family Health Team in Almonte, fostering collaboration among healthcare providers, and was instrumental in re-establishing LifeLabs at 95 Spring Street—enhancing access to comprehensive care for local residents.

While Randy is retiring from full-time work, he will continue to support healthcare by assisting with the redevelopment project at St. Francis Memorial Hospital, bringing his extensive expertise to yet another meaningful initiative. He also looks forward to enjoying more time with his family, including his two daughters and three grandchildren, while embracing personal passions like camping, cooking, and the arts.

Randy Shaw leaves behind a legacy defined by compassion, resilience, and unwavering dedication to the communities he served. As he moves into this new chapter, we extend our deepest gratitude for his many years of service and the profound, positive impact he has had on the MRHA and the communities we serve.
