Almonte General Hospital and Carleton Place & District
Memorial Hospital created the Mississippi River Health Alliance (MRHA) in 2016
to formalize their commitment to work together to improve each patient and
resident’s overall health care experience through a strong, coordinated system
of care. An integrated Senior Team leads the two Hospitals, as well as Fairview
Manor and Lanark County Paramedic Service which are operating divisions of AGH.
Over 600 caring staff, physicians and midwives provide excellent primary, acute
and long-term care to citizens of Lanark County, West Ottawa and Renfrew
County.
Reporting to the Employee and Labour Relations Manager, the
Abilities & Safety Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing
and administering the Ability Management Program of the Occupational Health and
Safety Department; this program is to manage and monitor employee illness and
injuries and this role plays a key function in our ESRTW (Early and Safe Return
to Work) process. In addition, they will plan, develop, implement and maintain
a corporate health and safety program that promotes safety awareness, provides
for a safe working environment for all workers that meet legislative &
regulatory requirements and employs best practices, while collaborating with
the Leadership Team, Joint Occupational Health Committee, union partners and
staff to ensure consistency and completeness of Abilities Management and Safety
Programs across the organization.

Qualifications:
• Diploma or degree in human resources or healthcare profession from an accredited college or university.
• Occupational Health and Safety Certificate or equivalent
is required.
• Certified Canadian Registered Safety Technician strongly
preferred.
• 2 - 5 years of experience implementing and promoting safe
work practices and policies within a healthcare environment or equivalent
preferred.
• 2 years disability case management experience preferred.
• Experience with accident investigation, workplace
inspection and job hazard analysis.
• Understanding of current legislation, Codes of Practice,
WSIB and Safety Bulletins and other safe work practice requirements and
recommendations.
• Outstanding communication skills: writing, content
development, presentation and verbal communication skills.
• Thorough knowledge of all applicable regulations and best
practices legislation such as Public Hospitals’ Act, Occupational Health &
Safety Act, the Human Rights Code, Workplace Safety & Insurance Act and the
Employment Standards Act.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Workers’ Safety and Insurance
Board (W.S.I.B.) procedures and regulations particularly as they relate to
claims management and appeals sufficient to effectively manage the
organization’s claims and appeals.
